The Shadow Planets: Rahu and Ketu

In Western Astrology, they are known as the North Node and the South Node of the Moon. In Vedic Astrology, they are Rahu and Ketu—the most mysterious and misunderstood forces in the zodiac.

Unlike the Sun or Mars, Rahu and Ketu do not have a physical body. They are mathematical points where the Moon's orbit intersects with the Sun's path (Ecliptic). Because they cause Eclipses (blocking the light of the Sun and Moon), they are called "Chhaya Graha" or Shadow Planets.

But do not underestimate them. They are the drivers of your Karma.

Rahu: The Head of the Dragon (Future & Obsession)

Rahu represents the head of the demon. It has a mouth to eat but no stomach to digest.

• The Role: Rahu represents the area of life where you are inexperienced but hungry. It drives you to achieve material success. It is the energy behind internet fame, AI, space travel, and modern politics.
• Why it feels difficult: Rahu creates smoke and mirrors (Maya). It makes you chase things that might not bring lasting happiness, but the chase teaches you valuable lessons.

Ketu: The Tail of the Dragon (Past & Detachment)

Ketu is the headless body. It has no eyes, so it feels everything internally.

• Key Traits: Spirituality, detachment, isolation, research, coding, and past life mastery.
• The Role: Ketu represents what you have already mastered in past lives. Therefore, you feel naturally detached from the house Ketu sits in. For example, Ketu in the 2nd house might make a person indifferent to accumulating wealth.
• Why it feels difficult: Ketu separates. It cuts attachments to force you towards spiritual growth or deep research.

The Rahu-Ketu Axis

Rahu and Ketu are always 180 degrees apart. If Rahu is in the 1st House (Self), Ketu will be in the 7th House (Partnership). This creates a "tug-of-war."

Are They Evil?

No planet is inherently evil.
